MUTEKI TAIKO DOJO
––––––––––––––––––––
The Estonian taiko community since 2009

Japanese roots. Estonian nature. A shared rhythm.

Dojo (道場) is, in Japanese tradition, a place for learning, practicing, and growing together. Muteki Taiko Dojo combines authentic Japanese taiko tradition with Estonian nature and community spirit. We respect Japanese traditions and carry them forward here in Estonia – amidst our forests, seasons and people.

It all began with an invitation to Japan

Sometimes, a single encounter can change your whole life.

Hele-Riin Uib-Pachel. Pioneer of Japanese taiko culture in Estonia.

In 2009, I began learning Japanese from the renowned Japanese taiko artist ICHITARO. At that time, I had no idea that this would be the beginning of a journey that would change my life. In Japan, I first studied under the guidance of Emiko Taba, and later I had the opportunity to further my training with many renowned taiko masters and teachers. Over the years, taiko grew into my calling—not just a musical art form, but a way of life that combines discipline, community, and a deep respect for tradition.

Upon returning to Estonia, Muteki Taiko was born.

In the beginning, it was my artist name. Today, it has become the Estonian taiko community – a place where people learn, perform, grow and share a passion for Japanese taiko culture.
